EVH Overdrive / Distortion pedal was long overdue - now it has arrived! The MXR 5150 Overdrive supplies the official Eddie van Halen sound. The circuit is implemented in MOSFET technology, thus ensuring full, tube-like distortion sound. With the effective 3-band EQ, the pedal can be easily adapted to amp use - the boost switch throws in its mandatory extra portion of Gain. Ambient noise can be effectively fought with the integierten Noisegate. The 5150 pedal responds very well to dynamics, levelling down onto clean sound is not a problem. Those that have missed the legendary 5150 sound should test this pedal.

Wie der Titel sagt, habe ich soundmäßig mehr erwartet. Da bin ich mit meinen jetzigen Preamp Pedals zufriedener. Aber je nach Endstufe unterscheidet sich der Sound natürlich maßgeblich. Ein großer Pluspunkt ist jedoch das integrierte Noise Gate. Sollte jeder teurere Preamp haben. Fazit: Nicht schlecht, aber auch kein herausragender Sound.
Das Pedal tut, was man von ihm erwartet, es liefert einen relativ authentischen Van Halen-Zerrsound. Das Noise Gate ist extrem praktisch und hilfreich. Leicht angezerrte Sounds sind eher schlecht möglich, aber dafür gibt es dann eben andere Pedale.
