Helbling Southway
Product information "Helbling Southway"
Modern world music for piano
In his five-movement piano suite Southway (2008), Brazilian-born Jean Kleeb incorporates motifs from the legends of Indian cultures, impressions of the landscapes of Patagonia and Latin America's attitude to life into a modern musical language. His compositional versatility results in a wide-ranging and appealing synthesis of styles from classical and folklore, tradition and modernity, classical and popular music. Jazz elements (in the harmonies) also flash up again and again.
However, Kleeb's Latin American sources of inspiration are most evident in his rhythms. Diversely changing, original rhythm and time structures give the work its very own character. Also refreshing are the sound patterns originating from the Native American tradition, which repeatedly allow for melodiously clear musical solutions. The result is a powerful, sometimes beguiling, sometimes rousing piece of modern world music.
The work is of a medium to high level of difficulty and is equally suitable for ambitious young people, students, professionals and piano enthusiasts. The generously formatted single edition also contains a bilingual foreword (German/English).
