Mollenhauer Prima Sopran 1054 · Soprano Recorder

The Mollenhauer Prima series combines the insensitivity of plastic with the warm sound of wood.

The headjoint of this series is made of high quality plastic, which makes it particularly insensitive. Thanks to the lower part made of pearwood, the Prima recorders have a full and warm sound despite the plastic content.

Thus, the recorders of the Prima series offer a special entry-level price: high-quality materials and meticulous workmanship are combined to give a convincing price-performance ratio.

In addition to the instrument itself, the delivery includes a cotton bag, a plastic wiper rod, a fingering chart and care instructions as well as a warranty declaration.

The recorders of the Prima series are available as soprano recorders, pentatonic soprano recorders and alto recorders.

Baroque or German fingering?

Most school recorders are still offered in both fingerings, so that when buying a recorder a decision has to be made for one or the other fingering.

B]The most important distinguishing feature is the note F (soprano), which is initially easier to handle with the German fingering. However, it must be remembered that this simplification is bought at the expense of intonation shortcomings as soon as one leaves the instrument's regular scale: even with the F sharp, more complicated fingerings are necessary to achieve a precise intonation.

Modern recorder schools therefore have based their methodology on the baroque fingering, which - if properly taught - is no more difficult for younger students to learn.

A common error

The double holes C/C# and D/D# (soprano recorder) are often regarded as the hallmark of baroque fingering. However, the double holes are possible with both fingering styles.

The baroque fingering is easily recognized by the larger tone hole 5, compared to the German fingering.
