Modulation effects move the sound image. The input signal will be found as being a floating, doubled, perceived rotating or pulsating rhythmical sound depending on the effect used. We have listed the differences between the various types of effects here.

The input signal is delayed modulated and mixed with the original signal, so that a floating sound is created.

The signal comprises of very short delays which are mixed with the original signal, frequency cancellations and filter effects arise, ranging depending on the effect intensity from mild to aggressive beats, metallic "jet fighter Sounds".

The input signal is periodically interrupted - soft swinging or hard chopped depending on the effect device type (BIAS Tremolo).

The sound of rotating speakers such as those used by organists eg. Leslie style boxes with the characteristic Doppler Effect at the end of the rotation.

The Phaser is the very similar to the rotary effect, but more intense. The input signal is shifted in phase - the signal appears to rotate and to blur in on itself.

The Vibe effect is named after the legendary Univibe - a kind of primitive Phaser, which was originally marketed as a Rotary effect, but a very distinct sound like a cross between Rotary and Phaser generated.
