Marshall
The English company Marshall Amplification has to be the most respected makers of guitar amps. Marshall also makes bass amps, guitar effects and further products that are related to guitars and bass guitars.James Charles Marshall was born on the 29.July 1923 in Kensington. 1960 Marshall started his own drum shop and used his garage to assemble speakers. The first Marshall amplifier was made by James and his first employee. In 1966 the first tube amp was made, the JTM45 is still very popular today. The first 100-watt top was built and a guy named Pete Townshend asked Jim to build speakers he could stack, the rest is history.
In 1981 the Marshall JCM 800 series was started, the 2203 top is the most popular piece of gear from the series. Numerous guitarists such as Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Angus Young (AC/DC), Jeff Beck, Gary Moore, Pete Townshend, Lemmy Kilmister (Motörhead), Slash (ex-Guns N'Roses, Velvet Revolver), Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen, Kerry King, Bryan Adams and many more accompany Marshall ever since.
Early 60's Marshall gear had a green or blue & black finish with gold trims and logo. Marshall’s cabinets such as the 1960TV were finished with a grey fabric. Today most of the gear is kept in the black & white style with brass panels and a white logo.
Marshall products are developed and produced by a team of technicians and musicians in the English town of Milton Keynes. The novice models of the MG series are made in China or South Korea.
Not to long ago the JCM-2000 series started. Consisting of a range of tube amps offering not only the typical "Brown sound" but also the acclaimed fendertyp "Clean sound" and modern Nu-metal-sound. Latest child in the family is the Marshall Mode Four, a 350-watt hybrid top, capable of producing all kinds of tube amp sounds.
Today Marshall is present on all 5 continents and in nearly every country. Nevertheless many guitarists still come to Milton Keynes to pick up their new gear personally or to place an order. That’s because Jim Marshall still listens to the wishes of the rockers, when they are whispered in his ear.
