Well The Beatles would still have written music history but the Höfner Bass would have most probably never made its mark. A good thing that it didn't happen and the somewhat unique styled Höfner Beatles Bass gained its claim to fame in Paul's hands and could conquer markets around the world. The Höfner Ignition Beatles Bass is an inexpensive version and also available as a left handed model! Just wait till Paul finds out...... The 500/1 violin bass was developed by Walter Höfner and presented to the public at the Frankfurt Musikmesse in 1956. Not only its design but also its distinctive sound contribute to the high recognition value of this classic. As it was 50 years ago, this instrument is still manufactured by hand in Höfner-Werkstätten in Hagenau. All instruments from German production are shipped with flatwound strings, which reproduce the original sound of the 60s. The Höfner 500/1 from 1961 derives its name from the Cavern Club in Liverpool which was opened in 1957. The Cavern Club was one of the most popular venues in Europe for newcomer bands of the Beat era. In 1960, Ringo Starr played with Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, before the Beatles, as representatives of the 'Merseybeat' scene, came into the limelight of the Cavern club in mid-1961. Replica of the '61 model, which Paul McCartney bought in Hamburg. Full resonance body, original '61 neck dimensions. Also available as Lefthand version (L). Incl. Höfner vintage belt and case.
