The Guild Guitar Company was founded in 1952 by Alfred Dronge. The guitars were first produced in New York, only exclusive models made of exclusive woods, hand wound pickups and first class finishes. The carefully built and warm sounding Guild electro and acoustic guitars appeal to the Jazz as well as the rock musician. For a small while Guild guitars were made in westerly, Rhode Island. In 1995 Fender took over and moved the production to Corona in California. In 2004 Fender acquired the Tacoma Guitar Company from Tacoma/Washington and moved the production of all Guild acoustic guitars to this plant. With around 14000m² it’s now the largest manufacturer of acoustic guitars in the USA. For a while Guild produced a guitar range called DeArmond in Korea. The headstock carried the name DeArmond, whilst the truss-rod cover was branded with Guild. In 2005 Fender introduced the china made Guild GAD acoustic guitars, after all Guild was best known for its acoustic guitars F50 and D50. Musicians such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Nick Drake, Martha Wainwright, John Denver, Brian May, Paul Collins, Kim Thayil, Roger Hodgson, Slash und Eric Clapton have used different Guild acoustics. The Guild solid and hollow bodies also gained large attention, especially the Starfire, but also the Brian Mays Red special replica and the S-100 played by Kim Thayil of Soundgarden were very popular in the 80´s and 90´s...
