The pedal has always been a playground for tinkerers and professional pedal designers — there are countless circuit modifications. Brian Wampler dedicated the Ratsbane pedal to this classic and catapulted it into the 21st century. At the heart of the Ratsbane circuit is the legendary filter tone control, offering a range from soft, round fundamentals to biting, sizzling tones. On the Ratsbane pedal, the already generous gain reserves can be doubled, and two switchable voicings are available.

Brian Wampler, CEO of Wampler Pedals, has created some of the best effects pedals in the world. From the humble beginnings of modding pedals to producing his original boutique pedals, it's been a long journey for Brian. He is a guitarist first and foremost and has always been a true gear nerd — he tried different guitars, amps and, of course, pedals — always with the aim of achieving the best possible sound. Every pedal on the market that Brian played simply didn't deliver the sounds he craved. So rather than settle for standard sounds, he began tweaking and modifying pedals here and there to get closer to the sounds he heard in his head.

Ich habe das Original und wollte mir für mein kleines Pedalboard eine schmale Variante zulegen, und da tut die Ratsbane genau das richtige, klein, giftig und schön frech, mit den zusätzlichen Einstellmöglichkeiten sogar flexibler als das Original. Der Sound ist absolut überzeugend.
Ich schließe mich dem Lob an, was im Allgemeinen diesem Pedal entgegen gebracht wird. Es deckt einen großen Bereich an rattigen Sounds ab und lässt sich flexibel an die jeweilige Anwendung anpassen. Ich habe es mir gekauft, um eine in Richtung Fuzz gehende Verzerroption an meinem AMP1 zu bekommen. Erst habe ich das Pedal mit geringem Gain vor dem gut zerrenden Vintage-Kanal ausprobiert, bin aber schließlich zu dem Schluss gekommen, dass es für mich besser mit mehr Gain im Cleankanal funktioniert. Beides klappt aber und hat seinen Reiz. Der Preis ist meiner Meinung nach hoch, aber noch zu ertragen, viele hochwertige Zerren knacken ja schon locker die 200,- €-Grenze. Es lohnt sich aber unter Umständen, auch einen Blick auf das günstigere Original (Proco Rat) zu werfen, wenn einem die zusätzlichen Optionen nicht so wichtig sind. Meiden sollte man das Pedal, wenn man auf tighte Distortion steht. Hier geht es fett und loose zur Sache, es drückt auch, matscht aber schnell in tiefen Lagen. Geniales Pedal!
Wie kam ich bloss durch die 90er Jahre in einer Alternative Rock Band ohne jemals ne Ratte besessen zu haben #kopfkratz. Egal. Besser spät als nie. Macht sich hervorragend vor nem Friedman Dirty Shirley. Solide Qualität, sinnvolle Soundoptionen über Kippschalter. Rockt.
