Squier is a subsidiary of Fender for affordable entry-level electric guitars and electric basses and is the only manufacturer legally permitted to produce exact copies, particularly with regard to the legendary headstock, of the great originals.
The history of Squier goes back to 1881. The English emigrant Jerome Bonapart Squier made violins in the USA built to European designs, whose high quality soon became popular. Soon the company began producing matching violin strings and later also strings for the newly emerging electrically amplified instruments. From 1950 Squier was the official string supplier to Fender and was bought by Fender in 1965. To counter the huge flood of counterfeits from the Far East, in the early 1980s Fender began having official, licensed copies of the most sought-after guitars such as Fender Stratocaster, Fender Telecaster, Fender Precision Bass and Fender Jazz Bass manufactured in Japan.
Today the Squier Bullet Strat is the most affordable way to buy a Stratocaster as faithful to the original as possible (commonly called a Strat) and is especially popular with beginners. In the range above it, the Squier Affinity Series offers Stratocaster, Telecaster and P-Bass models in a variety of popular colours as well as complete beginner kits with amp, strap and cable. If you love Fender's vintage guitars but still want to watch the price, the Squier Classic Vibe Series is highly recommended. Here you'll find the most popular Stratocaster, Telecaster, Jazzmaster, Jazz Bass and Precision Bass instruments from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s with corresponding features, construction and colours at a great value for money. The Contemporary Series or Paranormal Series from Squier also includes more unusual models aimed at modern and heavier music.
Overall, Squier guitars are not only a great option for beginners but are also worth considering for more experienced guitarists who are looking for an affordable guitar with Fender feel and looks.
