The Shure Beta 98 H/C (or WB98H/C for the wireless version) is a high-quality, permanently polarised condenser microphone with a cardioid pickup pattern that is clamped onto the bell of wind instruments. The integral gooseneck and the ratcheting swivel joint allow easy positioning and secure placement of the microphone. An isolation shock-mount system reduces noise generated by the instrument (such as "key noise") or other mechanical noise. The included gooseneck angle brace helps to keep the microphone in positon even when the instrument is moved abruptly. The Beta 98 H/C incorporates a transformeless circuitry which provides improved linearity across the full frequency range. Its cardioid pickup pattern ensures high feedback resistance and excellent rejection of unwanted background noise. As it features high SPL (sound pressure level) capability, it is ideally suited for the extreme demands of brass and woodwind instruments as well as percussion instruments.
The Beta98 H/C is supplied with a locking windscreen, storage bag, gooseneck angle brace and cable management device. The preamp operates on phantom power (11- 52 V). If phantom power is not available, the WB98H/C can be used, with the MX1BP battery-powered preamp.
