ENGL is justifiably endowed with an endless list of endorsements with just about every guitarist who has a name in the rock and metal scene. And many other guitarists who already have other endorsement contracts and who are not allowed to advertise with ENGL will use ENGL equipment in the studio or on tour.
At the beginning of 2005, a well-known guitarist joined the ENGL family and it looked as if a signature model would be produced together. The recipe for this amp was clear from the start: simple operation without go faster frills - with the greatest possible yield of sound and dynamics! and so the basis being a E-650 Blackmore Head was modified anew with few components in the signal path, a power amplifier with EL-34, two channels + gain boost and 2 master volume. After some back and forth between Tittmoning and the USA and elaborate, pedantic fine tuning, an amp has emerged that is more than convincing in terms of sound and above all dynamics!
Unfortunately the parties could not agree on the contract. The guitarist moved on and just this genious amp disappeared again in the cupboard. Over the years, however, some other guitarists listened to the amp and wanted just one copy. Some names may be mentioned, some not. Paul Stanley, Ken Hammer, Scott Gorham, and Jimmy Page (version with KT88) are on the road with this machine, for example.
From 2006 to his tragic death, Gary Moore also used this amplifier model in the studio, and when this amplifier recently returned, we had the chance to test this amplifier thoroughly. Sound, dynamics and the playing fun were so convincing that it quickly became clear: this Amp must not disappear again!

I'm a 'well rounded' metal guy. Ive used everything, and I'm very picky. Tone wise, this can do absolutely everything and has a very unique tone. I played it once, and bought it. I have 2 problems with this amp. 1 is the clean and high gain channels share the eq. With that said, they both sound amazing, but would like the option to adjust them separately. 2, as much as i love a scooped tone, even with the treble on 0, it is exactly where i want it, meaning if i wanted a more dull metal tone, i have to use the mid boost option, which takes the sound from straight up metal core to black sabbath, and not much in between. These issues are for someone who wants an extremely versatile amp, who can vary their LIVE tones with one push of a button. If being used in studio you can dial however you want between tracks. If you want clean crunch and overdrive distortion live, done. If you want clean crunch a ridculous metal tone, done. It is just a little trickier to have clean crunch od distortion and metal set at matching volumes for live performances, but can be done. With all that said, 5 stars.
