Tracking Scratch gets you started right away because it makes scratching child’s play and a lot of fun. This handy feature automatically returns the track to the cue point when you move the jog-wheel from backward to forward or lift your hand. You don’t need to move the crossfader or worry about how to wind the jog-wheel back to the start point of the scratch. Just select the desired scratch-crossfader-cuts pattern with a press of the corresponding performance pad and move the jog-wheel forward to scratch. If you like, you can also use the controller’s performance pads to instantly trigger favourite samples or tracks that were previously loaded into the Scratch Bank in Serato DJ Lite. That was previously only available in Serato DJ Pro. It’s also possible via Deck 3/4 control to play sounds from all four decks in the software.
If you want to share your sets with friends and followers on social media via a stream, you can now enhance them with voice and vocals. Simply plug a microphone into the controller and get started. No external soundcard or mixer is required — the sound is sent directly to your laptop and the stream.
Brand-new layout for intuitive performances
The user interface emulates two PLX turntables and a DJM-S-series mixer — a typical setup used by professional battle DJs.
Battle-style setup
The new arrangement of controls on the DDJ-REV1 provides plenty of space for mixing and scratching techniques. The tempo sliders arranged horizontally above the decks are 60 mm long, longer than on the DDJ-SB3, allowing for finer control. The performance pads have been moved into the mixer section to enable intuitive effect combinations, sample triggering and track scratching.
Larger jog-wheels
The larger the jog-wheels, the better they are for scratching. The DDJ-REV1’s jog-wheels are the same size as those on the popular DDJ-SR2 controller, which comes from a higher-tier Pioneer DJ series.
Lever-FX
With the Lever-FX in the mixer section you can add texture to music in a very dynamic way. Pull the levers down and hold them to apply Serato DJ Lite effects in short bursts. Push the levers up and the effects stay on permanently, leaving your hands free for scratching or track browsing.
Tracking Scratch makes scratching even easier
The DDJ-REV1 makes scratching more fun. While you’ll still want to practise your scratch skills, the Tracking Scratch feature silently returns the music to the cue point as soon as you move the jog-wheel from backward to forward or lift your hand. That saves you from pulling down the fader and hunting for the right spot in the track to restart the scratch. Simply choose the Tracking Scratch pad mode, press a performance pad to select the desired scratch-crossfader-cuts pattern and then move the jog-wheel.
Mixing made easy: add your voice to streams via microphone
For the first time in a Pioneer DJ controller of this class, the sound from a connected microphone can also be output via the master output. Without any further external equipment, a soundcard or a separate mixer, it’s possible to add speech or vocals to a performance and route them into the computer. All sounds are sent to Serato DJ Lite, from where they can be streamed.
Integration with Serato DJ Lite: get the most from the free software
Once Serato DJ Lite is running after download on a PC/Mac, simply connect the DDJ-REV1 via the supplied USB cable and you’re ready to start DJing. Thanks to the controller’s buttons, knobs, faders and jog-wheels, the software’s functions and effects can be controlled very precisely.
The Scratch Bank pad mode lets you immediately load scratch samples from four banks you’ve assigned in Serato DJ Lite or Pro — just tap the dedicated Scratch Bank button. It’s also possible to load sounds from a specific start point, for example to drop whole tracks into a running mix.
