Clavia Nord Grand 2
Nord Grand 2
A magnificent addition to the Swedish keyboard family
Swedish stage piano and synthesizer maker Clavia Nord has a new addition. The new family member is called Grand Stage 2 and replaces its namesake from the first generation with new, improved features.
The key features at a glance
Typical for the Swedish keyboards, the characteristic red colour naturally remains, clearly visible even from a distance. Still, the Clavia Nord Grand 2 stage piano brings several significant developments. Among the key features of the Grand 2 is a premium Kawai keyboard with triple-sensor detection for precise capture of your key touch, as well as expanded layering options that now let you combine two pianos with two sample synths. This not only gives you an exceptionally realistic playing feel but also enormous sonic variety and flexibility.
As part of the expanded layering, the Nord Grand has been given individual split settings for each layer, including the option for crossfades between them. This enables seamless transitions and creative freedom when designing your sound. Another highlight is the Nord Triple-Pedal-2, which is included in the delivery. This pedal provides extended functionality and gives you an even more authentic piano playing experience. As well as the integration of the Nord Piano-Monitore, which ensure optimal sound reproduction.
Magnificent playing experience
The Nord Grand 2 is equipped with a new, improved Kawai keyboard that is fully weighted and features a triple-sensor. Its characteristics allow a precise capture of your key attack.
Furthermore, the keyboard is superbly balanced and responds quickly, thanks to an advanced hammer mechanism that lets you control the dynamic range with exceptional precision. At the same time, the Nord Grand 2 retains the user-friendliness of its predecessor and offers additional flexibility for live performances and creating your own stage and studio sounds with two layers for pianos and synthesizers.
Performance features to inspire!
Alongside the excellent playing characteristics, the Nord Grand 2 is packed with professional performance features. The stage piano features LED faders for each layer as well as rotary controls and buttons for all key functions needed in a live performance. Functions like creating layers and splits, adding effects or transposing the instrument can be carried out by you quickly and easily.
The two piano and synth engines can be combined in one layer or split across the keyboard, with each of these layers having its own effect section. With a total of seven split points, which are indicated by LED lights, the Nord Grand 2 enables smooth transitions between two split zones. You can choose from three different crossfade widths (Small, Large or Off), which are also shown to you by different LED colours.
Piano section
The Nord Grand 2 features an extensive collection of Grands, Uprights and E-Pianos from Clavia's exclusive Nord Piano Library, which can be combined with new Dynamic Compression and Unison functions. The onboard state-of-the-art sampling technology captures the unique timbres and the authentic character of the recorded instruments perfectly. Thanks to the excellent Advanced String Resonance technology and Dynamic Pedal Noise, an extremely realistic playing experience and unmatched expressiveness are achieved.
Synthesizer section
The synth section of the Nord Grand 2 includes two independent sample synths with greatly expanded memory and a wide selection of new and updated sounds, ranging from winds, brass, strings, basses and guitars to analogue leads and basses. This selection is complemented by exclusive samples from the renowned Symphobia and Swing Collections by ProjectSAM
The sample synth section offers two fully equipped independent layers and is fitted with intuitive controls for Attack, Decay/Release and dynamic velocity response. Thanks to the Soft and Bright options you can easily shape the tonal character of your sounds. Other notable additions include the Tru-Vibrato function, which faithfully recreates the unique vibrato of wind, brass and string instruments, and the round-robin function, which lets you produce natural-sounding fast note repetitions. The vibrato is triggered by a key, pedal or via the preset delay. The sample synth section also offers the "Mono" and "Legato" modes with adjustable glide rate.
Effect section
The Nord Grand 2 is equipped with an advanced effect section for each layer, offering a wide range of effects, including the latest variations of reverb, echo, amp and modulation effects.
Overview:
- Dedicated effect section per layer
- Modulation effects with rate and amount
- Global reverb with send per layer, pre-delay, chorale and Bright/Dark mode
- New Spring, Booth and Cathedral reverbs
- New Spin effect
- Improved delay with filter, flam and ping-pong

Clavia is a Swedish manufacturer of electronic musical instruments based in Stockholm, founded in 1983 by Hans Nordelius. After initially producing drum machines and e-drum kits, Clavia has focused on keyboard instruments since the release of the Nord Lead in 1995, such as stage pianos and synthesizers. Clavia instruments are appreciated not only for their sound quality but also for their solid build and long product support.
The Nord Lead and the Nord Wave are virtual-analogue synthesizers, the latter being sample-based. The Nord Stage is a stage piano that, in addition to a synthesizer section, also offers first-class emulations of well-known pianos, organs and other keyboard instruments such as the Hammond B3, Vox Continental, Fender Rhodes or Wurlitzer.
The Nord Electro is a stripped-down version of the Nord Stage that omits the synthesizer section. With the Nord Piano 5, Clavia brings a new stage piano to the market aimed particularly at pianists thanks to its remarkably realistic keyboard. The Clavia Nord stage pianos are available with 73, 76 or 88 keys. Thanks to the Nord Sound Library, the sounds on all current Nord instruments can be exchanged freely and free of charge. At session you'll find various Clavia instruments and matching accessories such as stands for digital pianos, music stands, pedals for keyboard instruments and bags and cases for keyboard instruments.
