Dynamics Processors

The dynamics processors include compressors, gates or Limiter. A compressor works as a kind of "automatic" control: if the input signal exceeds a certain value (threshold), the gain of the compressor is reduced, the output signal gets attenuated (the desired threshold of a compressor is usually a few decibels below the maximum allowable level). The compression ratio indicates in this context, which increase in the input signal leads to a by 1 dB higher output signal. A ratio of 4:1 says, therefore, that increasing the input signal above the threshold by 4 dB, leads to an increase of the output signal of only 1 dB.
