The name Marine Band stands for a long, successful tradition in the manufacture of high-quality harmonicas. This series impresses with its pearwood body and the arched stainless steel cover plates with side sound slots that give the instrument its legendary tone, heard on many classic blues recordings.
With the Marine Band Deluxe a number of optimisations have achieved faster note response and increased projection, among other improvements.
Hohner harmonicas from the Richter series received a few updates in their latest revision. They now come fitted with secure TORX® screws, which provide greater stability and improved serviceability. The instruments also now come in the innovative and handy Snapcases.
Hohner Marine Band Deluxe
When the Marine Band was introduced to the American market in 1896, no one could have guessed the lasting influence this instrument would have on the future of popular music. Its low price and small size made the Marine Band a popular travelling companion. The unique, almost plaintive sound of bending opened up a whole new world of creative expression for players.
That was the foundation of the Marine Band series, which became a key figure, unleashing the raw emotions of the blues, the free spirit of country and the energy of rock’n’roll like no other. From the classic 1896 to the modern crossover models, the Marine Band series has produced genre-defining harmonicas that remain the first choice for countless harmonica players around the world. All Marine Band models are made in Germany.
With the Marine Band Deluxe, Hohner has brought the incomparable sound of the original blues harmonica into the 21st century. With subtle design refinements that optimise handling and allow for a louder sound and faster response, the legendary Marine Band has been reinvented and adapted to the needs of today’s musicians.
The Marine Band Deluxe is more than just a technical upgrade of the proven blues harmonica (Marine Band Classic 1896). It is a rediscovery of deep emotion, the awakening of forgotten spirits and the revival of hidden energies. With the Marine Band Deluxe, the blues comes alive again!
Thanks to its fully screwed construction, the Marine Band Deluxe is particularly easy to maintain.
The improved covers with side openings and an open back give the harmonica more volume and stability. In addition, the Deluxe offers a high level of playing comfort thanks to its rounded reed plates and chamber openings, and the double-coated comb body reduces swelling and makes the Marine Band Deluxe especially robust. The harp’s mouthpiece is additionally sealed with a layer of UltraGlide.
A sturdy zippered case that allows moisture to escape and protects against dust and dirt completes the Marine Band Deluxe.

The legendary blues harmonica
The Hohner Marine Band series is one of the most famous and tradition-rich harmonicas in the world. Since its introduction in 1896 it has had a major influence on the sound of blues, folk, country and rock. Many famous musicians – from Little Walter to Bob Dylan to Neil Young – have used the Marine Band's characteristic tone and made music history with it.
Typical for the Marine Band is its warm, full tone, produced by the wooden comb body and the precisely tuned brass reedplates. At the same time the series offers various models that differ in construction, playability and finish.
