Active or passive PA speaker that is the question. Active speaker systems have the advantage that they are compact and powerful, amplifiers and speakers are perfectly matched and whoever doesn’t want to worry about crossover frequencies and limiter functions will probably be happier with an active system. Passive speakers are more versatile and repair is also usually not quite as costly as active systems. More knowledge of the fundamentals of sound technology is recommended if your choice goes towards a passive system which is usually bulkier and heavier as its active counterparts and a lot of cables too. Together with a digital controller, a passive PA can adapt better to local conditions.
