Djemben

From hollowed tree trunks and animal skin, Djembes were first made in in (West) Africa. The djembe is a single skin goblet drum where the bottom is open. Each djembe has a sound spectrum determined by the type of wood you use, the body shape, the skin, and the skin tension. Considered in the simplest manner, you can play a variety of different sounds on the djembe with three basic strokes. One of the basic beats is the bass beat on the center of the head, the open shot on the edge, and the whip-like whipped Slap - also on the edge. But the entire sound spectrum of a djembe is so extensive and cannot be put into words.... just try it! Have fun with it.
