Gibson Les Paul Standard
Gibson began building Les Paul guitars labelled Standard as early as 1958. Production was initially discontinued in 1960 when the Les Paul was redesigned into what later became the SG. However, Gibson resumed producing Les Paul Standards in 1976. The Standard series represents guitars that embody the essence of the Les Paul.
The Les Paul Standard guitars feature a mahogany body with a maple top and a set-in mahogany neck with a rosewood fretboard. This is the same recipe that characterised the first Les Paul guitars of the late 1950s.
The Les Paul Standard is available in several model lines, each representing a different era in Gibson's history and serving as a tribute to that period. These model lines include the Standard 50's, the Standard 60's, and the Standard 50's with P-90 pickups.
For those of you who place particular value on historical accuracy, Gibson also builds reissues of period Les Paul Standards as part of the Murphy Lab.
If these guitars aren't exactly what you're looking for, we'd also like to recommend the Les Paul Studio series or the Les Paul Custom Shop guitars.
If Gibson's versions are a little too expensive for you, you'll find an overview of our range of Epiphone Inspired by Gibson guitars here.
