A new series to honour Taylor's history
We are pleased to present the new Taylor Legacy Collection featuring five acoustic models that honour Taylor's long company history. Three of them are reworked rosewood/spruce models from the iconic 800 Series, which trace back to some of Bob Taylor's earliest guitars. The other two put Bob's flagship, the Grand Auditorium body, at the centre — the shape that defined the modern Taylor sound. These two models are based on guitars from the 500 Series and 700 Series. Inspired by Bob's original instruments, these retro models reflect the full breadth of Taylor Guitars' history by combining fundamental design elements with the key developments that followed.
Key features of the Legacy 514ce
The Legacy 514ce, originally conceived as part of Taylor's 50th Anniversary models, is a tribute to the Grand Auditorium body shape — a true Bob Taylor original that has redefined the sound, look and feel of acoustic guitars since its debut in 1994. This exclusive model in the Legacy Collection features a tonewood pairing not found in Taylor's standard line: back and sides of mahogany with a Western Red Cedar top. With its punchy midrange and dry, woody character, mahogany is perfectly suited to unfold with the warmth and soft attack of cedar — particularly appealing for fingerstyle players and strummers with a lighter touch. The Legacy 514ce is fitted with X-Bracing, which Bob Taylor used in the first Grand Auditorium models over three decades ago. The acoustic guitar also features Taylor's characteristic slim, easy-to-play neck profile, which will delight both traditionalists and modern-oriented players.
The appointments reflect Bob's preferred understated aesthetic: binding and a tortoise-pattern pickguard, white and black edge trim, Small Diamond fretboard inlays in mother-of-pearl, a three-ring rosette of green abalone shell, ebony bridge pins with green abalone dots, gold Taylor tuning machines and a gloss-finished body with a satin neck finish. This model is equipped with the LR Baggs Element VTC electronics with soundhole-mounted controls and is supplied with a deluxe hardshell case.
