Pickguards

The pickguard was once used to protect the guitar from damage that can be caused by the picking technique with the plectrum. The first pickguards were elevated over the Guitar top and were made of celluloid or bakalite. This floating assembly can still be found today in the Hollowbodies. Most of today's pickguards are made of plastic and coloured differently depending on the design ideas of the manufacturer.
