MIDI stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface, meaning a digital interface for musical instruments. A MIDI keyboard is a keyboard without internal sound generation and is used for transmitting control data or MIDI commands only. The MIDI output of the keyboard can be connected to a sound module or a computer, to generate the desired sounds when playing the keys.
