The OM-3 is a dynamic handheld microphone tailored for live performance. When it was first introduced in 1989, it was the first microphone in the world to feature the patented VLM technology. VLM means Very Low Mass and ensures an effective transformation of the acoustic signal into an electric signal. This professional vocal microphone provides high feedback resistance which results in clear vocal reproduction. The OM-3 features a hypercardioid pickup pattern as well as a broad frequency response over 50 Hz - 18 kHz . Just as Audix’s high-end touring microphones, the OM-3 offers the same comfortable profile and features a low-reflective, rugged, black e-coat finish.
Incorporating transformerless design as well as low-impedance outputs, even with long cable runs, interference-free operation is ensured. Furthermore, it features high off-axis rejection (> 25 dB) and a rugged grill ball, along with the capability to handle sound pressure levels of up to 140 dB. It’s a roadworthy microphone which is even ideally suited for use on loud stages. The OM-3 is an affordable alternative to the OM-5, however, it still offers a clear sound, high noise-rejection and SPL capability. Compared to the OM-2, the OM-3 is more resistant to feedback.
MP-Rating: This microphone is comfortable to handle, provides a rugged construction and a black, non-reflective finish. Due to its transformerless design and low-impedance and symmetrical output jacks it ensures an interference performance- that’s why we award 5 Stars!

What are handheld vocal microphones?
Microphones that you hold in your hands while performing are considered as handheld vocal microphones. These microphones have to fulfil certain criteria. They need to offer high feedback-rejection and most of them feature cardioid, supercardioid or hypercardioid polar patterns. In addition they are required to provide a rugged construction, full bass and crispy highs. Their frequency response is usually tailored, because these microphones are designed for vocal pickup. Models featuring a pronounced proximity effect are frequently used. When choosing a mic, you should also make sure that wind and breath "pop" noise as well as handling noise are sufficiently suppressed.
